This was a nice little family session with the Burdett's and their one month old baby at their home on the Westside of Santa Cruz. Even though this was a somewhat posed photo shoot, as usual I was really just looking for natural moments that tell a bit about the people I'm photographing. For me a moment is always more memorable than a forced smile.
These photos are from my good friend's wedding on Marrowstone Island, Washington. I got to spend the weekend in a cabin on the water catching up with Ben and a group of longtime friends who had flown in from California and further to see our man marry an awesome woman. While not the official wedding photographer, I couldn't help but take photographs of the amazing weekend full of belly laughs, campfires, late nights, strong drinks and good people. Thanks Ben for an awesome wedding and the hilarious campfire stories!
I recently spent a good part of the day with Brandon and his parents documenting his day at the beach with the Ride a Wave Foundation. Brandon is 25 years old, a quadriplegic with Cerebral Palsy, doesn't talk, and has to have total care. He has been surfing for 15 years.
Ride a Wave is a 100% volunteer run organization based in Santa Cruz who's mission is to give children with special needs the chance to feel the thrill of riding a wave and experience a safe, fun-filled day at the beach, whether they are physically, developmentally or economically challenged. Check out what they do here - http://www.rideawave.org/
In the short time I spent with Brandon I was amazed by his fearlessness in the ocean, his incredible smile and bright personality. He is loved by the community and seems to bring people together wherever he goes. I think we could all learn something from him.
Saskia & Jeremy held their wedding in a small church on top of a hill in Marin County. It was a chilly and blustery day in December but that didn't stop anyone from having a great time inside or outside. After all the sun was out and friends and family had come from all over the world to share their love and be a part of their awesome celebration on this little hilltop. It was a great wedding with a full on dance party to end the night.
Jana at Bean Hollow Beach. One of my favorite spots north of Santa Cruz. Cold and foggy weather only makes the coffee taste that much better and the fireplace that much warmer when you get home.
